I/O Leader SIIG Ships UltraATA 100 PCI Product
(Fremont, California; June 26, 2000) SIIG, Inc. is shipping a breakthrough technology product for the hard disk drive controller market. New UltraATA/100 hard disk drives offering up to 100MB/sec data transfer rates have started shipping within the last month, but current motherboards do not have the on-board controllers to support such high data transfer rates. The only way to get the maximum performance from an UltraATA/100 hard disk drive is by upgrading the system with SIIG's UltraATA 100 PCI (SIIG part # SC-PE4A12) controller.SIIG's new UltraATA 100 PCI is a PCI-bus, dual channel UltraATA/100 controller with 40-pin/80-wire UltraATA/100 cable included. This next generation UltraATA interface almost doubles the current burst data transfer rate (66 MB/sec) to 100MB/sec, and is up to six times faster than standard IDE drive speeds. This high-speed interface allows host computers to send and retrieve data faster, removing bottlenecks associated with system performance.
Improved Performance
At its fast burst data rates, the UltraATA 100 PCI will go further than UltraATA/33 by improving sequential data transfer, and heightening data integrity to the EIDE interface through use of a 40-pin, 80-conductor cable. The CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) error detection code provides data verification and achieves flawless data transfer, while the bus-mastering feature reduces I/O processing load on the CPU to enhance system performance. With support for as many as 4 IDE/ATAPI devices and IDE drives up to 128GB in capacity, the UltraATA 100 PCI will enable maximum disk performance with all Ultra ATA/100 hard disk drives.
Compatibility
SIIG's UltraATA 100 PCI will extend existing technology with 100% backward compatibility on UltraATA/33, UltraATA/66, EIDE/Fast ATA-2, IDE, and ATAPI devices. It is fully Ultra ATA/100 compatible. It conforms to PCI v2.1 Plug-n-Play.
As Dolly Chao, SIIG's Director of Sales and Marketing, states, "As one of the first manufacturers to ship the UltraATA/100 controller solution, SIIG is reinforcing its commitment to bring next-generation technology to the market. At the same time, the backward compatibility of this product supports our commitment to the market's installed base of older systems. And in spite of its aggressively positioned MSRP of $49.99, the UltraATA 100 PCI offers the same world-class quality that people have come to rely on in all of our products, all backed by an industry leading five-year warranty."
