NEW PC Expansion Boards Increase Device Add-On Options
(Fremont,CA: Sept. 15, 1998) A new I/O product line provides help to the growing number of PC owners whose systems lack enough slots to support all the peripherals they want to add on. Using only one system case slot, the "Single-Slot-Multi-Port" family from SIIG, Inc. adds ports for up to six additional devices. The initial product offering includes nine models that support all types of serial and parallel port devices. With this release of Single-Slot-Multi-Port boards, SIIG has added to its leading success in the I/O board products by providing a full- range of Input/Output solutions for all kinds of PC upgrades.Unlike most expansion products on the market, Single-Slot-Multi-Port boards give customers a wide range of technology and configurations to choose from. With an array of boards that support two or more parallel port devices, two or more serial port devices, or both types of devices in various combinations to the maximum of six. ISA as well as PCI versions provide a choice of 16550, 16650, and 16850 serial technology, alone or in combination with high-speed ECP/EPP parallel ports.
Pricing also sets Single-Slot-Multi-Port boards apart in the marketplace: average street price ranges from $54 for a dual-port ISA product to $149 for a four-port, 16850, PCI serial board, making these products accessible to individual PC owners and not just corporate users.

Standard Single-Slot-Multi-Port boards feature include easy-to-reach cable connectors for simplified board installation and device connections; high-speed ECP/EPP (IEEE 1284-1994) parallel ports; high-IRQ or IRQ-sharing for conflict resolution; true Plug-n-Play support (PCI models); and support for DOS, Windows®95/98/NT, OS2 Warp, NetWare, and other major operating systems. They support PDA's, ISDN, modems, removable drives, scanners, printers, CD-R/RW's, and other peripheral devices. Like most SIIG upgrade products, Single-Slot-Multi-Ports are backed by an industry-leading five-year warranty.
The ISA models include boards with dual parallel ports, dual serial ports, dual serial with one parallel, dual parallel with one serial, dual parallel with dual 16550 serial, dual parallel with dual 16650 serial expandable to four serial, four 16650 serial, and four 16850 serial. The PCI models include a dual parallel port model, dual 16650 serial with one parallel, and four 16850 serial.
