New SIIG I/O Products Continue Leadership In Add-On Market
(Fremont, CA; February 5, 1998) SIIG, Inc. has been quietly building a reputation as a "One-Stop Shop" for PC add-on cards. They have just enhanced that reputation with the introduction of two new PCI-bus I/O boards CyberSerial PCI, and CyberParallel PCI. These boards are the first two members of a family of CYBER I/O boards that will provide a wide range of serial and parallel port attachment capabilities.
With these new products, SIIG has moved quickly to support the growing market for Pentium powered systems having limited I/O expansion capabilities. The new home computing systems such as those recently introduced by Hewlett-Packard® and Compaq® typically have only limited serial or parallel ports or ISA slots for the addition of new cards. Using the PCI-bus technology allows SIIG to provide a high performance, easy to install solution that preserves the limited ISA slots availability in many of these systems.
According to Andrew Gong, SIIG's Product Manager, these new products provide "new levels of compatibility, performance, and Plug-n-Play ease of installation". The new CYBER family of products is typical of SIIG's other PCI-Bus offerings in that it provides full support for DOS and Windows-based systems. Users do not want to be forced into an ever increasing pace of product and system upgrades. SIIG's practice of providing full support for both DOS and Windows allows the user to stage migrations when they are ready rather than forcing them into immediate and expensive system upgrades.
Product Capability
The CyberSerial PCI board fully conforms to PCI V2.1 Plug and Play. It provides full support for DOS and Windows-based software. The CyberSerial PCI board's single high-speed16550 UART serial port will support data transfer rates up to 460Kbps and work with 56K external modems and ISDN terminal adapters. Superior buffering capabilities dramatically increase the data transmit/receive speed, especially under the Windows multitasking environment.
Like its serial port cousin, the CyberParallel PCI provides a single add-on port. It is designed to provide high speed access for all types of parallel port devices including Iomega® removable cartridge drives, printers, and SuperDisk LS-120 drives. Like the rest of the series, the CyberParallel PCI provides full support for DOS and Windows-based software.
