Q: What is the difference between DisplayLink vs Alt Mode?
DisplayLink ports use a DisplayLink chip to extend displays using USB 3.0 data connectivity. They require drivers to be installed on the computer.
Alt Mode MST ports use Multi-Stream Transport to split a single display signal from the computer's GPU to two separate monitors.
DisplayLink technology was introduced before MST technology. MST is a subset of DisplayPort and DisplayPort Alt Mode, which is a feature of USB Type-C, while DisplayLink can be used with both USB Type-A and Type-C devices.
